Working closely with customers helps Aveng Mining retain existing work in tough environment

The continued downturn in commodity prices has affected mining operations globally; however, multidisciplinary construction and engineering group Aveng’s mining division has deployed responsive strategies that will sustain its operations during these trying times.

Addressing a group of investors during a mine visit at the Nkomati nickel mine, in Mpumalanga, last month, Aveng Mining MD Stuart White indicated that, although the weak rand somewhat shielded the local mining sector, this could not fully compensate for the new decade lows in commodity prices.

Steel fabricator taking survival steps as pressures mount

Since China reduced its steel consumption owing to overcapacity in February last year, over the past 18 months, the steel units at construction and engineering group Aveng have been pursuing several work streams to reacclimatise to the prevailing pressures.

At the annual South African Reward Association (SARA) Awards Banquet, held on Saturday 7 November 2015, Aveng was awarded second place in the category Reward Project of the Year, which recognises individuals and teams who have been responsible and actively involved in the development and implementation of a new Reward Project. This award further aimed to recognise reward thought leaders that make a noticeable impact to business through reward strategies and practices that deliver business results and support the objectives of their companies.

Aveng Grinaker-LTA is awarded contract for construction of student boarding house at Cape Town University

Aveng Grinaker-LTA has recently been awarded a contract worth R165 million for the construction of a 602 unit, seven storey student boarding house and three levels of basement parking. The site is within walking distance of the University of Cape Town and the new accommodation is specifically targeted at students enrolled at the University.

The constructioncompany’s Majuba Incremental Launch Bridge Project was awarded first place in the CivilEngineering Contractor Category, and its Sasol Process Water Cooling Towers Projectreceived a Special Mention.

Aveng’s renewable energy projects adds 212 MW to the national grid

The ground-breaking Sishen solar plant and the recently completed Gouda wind plant delivered by infrastructure group Aveng and its partner, Acciona Energia of Spain, are collectively contributing approximately 212 MW of power capacity to SA’s national grid, thus helping alleviate the over-strained Eskom energy grid.
