The Aveng Group announces full year results to end June 2011

Commenting on the results, Roger Jardine, CEO of the Aveng Group said, “These results are a reflection of the group’s resilience considering the numerous challenges faced by the industry. The South African construction and infrastructure environment has slowed significantly, particularly in the public sector. Aveng Trident Steel, a subsidiary of leading infrastructure group Aveng, today unveiled its new blanking press line at its Port Elizabeth premises. The 630 ton Servo Press Blanking line, which was manufactured by Shuler of Gemminen in Germany, will allow Aveng Trident Steel to press curved, trapezoidal or straight-edge blanks cost effectively for the motor manufacturing industry.

Further to the attached SENS, Roger Jardine, CEO of leading infrastructure development group, Aveng Group, said: “Through our focus on the construction and engineering value chain, combined with our geographic spread, the Aveng Group has maintained revenue of R16.9 billion and been partly cushioned from significant profit declines in a tough operating environment. The group’s balance sheet and order book remain strong and we are seeing positive results from group-wide efficiency programmes despite a slowdown of project awards and increased competitive pressures.”

AVENG CEO COMMENTS ON MARKET CONDITIONS AND COMPETITION COMMISSION ISSUES

Earlier today, The Aveng Group’s CEO Roger Jardine hosted a conference call for local and international investors to update them on the company’s trading conditions and Competition Commission matters. He says the steel environment continued to affect the company’s results to December 31 2010 and while infrastructure spend in South Africa has slowed down, he was confident that public investment in infrastructure will return in the medium term. Commenting on the Competition Commission’s investigation into the construction sector (see SENS attached) he said:
